Requirements and Challenges

Kirchhoff Automotive produces parts for passenger car market and also for commercial vehicle market such as, front-end frames, bumper systems, cross car beams, side and cross members, and floor assemblies etc.

In the welding shop, a new laser from Trumpf Laser for welding with robotic control was installed. A high amount of welding fume and smoke was produced from this new welding station. Kirchhoff needed a welding fume filtration solution, to meet the demand of this new investment.

Solution

  • Since the laser welding fume and smoke has a rather higher risk of fire, the filtration solution must also minimize the fire risk to a minimum, as opposed to the state-of-art technology.

  • VANTERM with its local dealer installed an AC-filter unit with 8000m3/h capacity. In order to minimize the fire risk, a pre-filter with water cooling (so-called water pre-filter) was installed together with the AC filter unit. The filter unit was also equipped with fire alarm system and automatic fire extinguishing system.
